Signing Day Thoughts

  • 1) Per 247, no 4-stars signed with the SBC.

    2) I believe we have the 2nd best class in the SBC behind UL-L.

    3) WKU signed around 35 guys, but ½ of them are rated lower than our lowest rated guy, Caleb Alves. I'm pretty sure those are the types of players Joey talks about when he says that we aren't going to use a scholarship unless the player is better than what we've already got.

    4) I like the size of our guys, especially the taller players in the secondary. We aren’t signing 250 lb offensive linemen or 210 lb defensive ends any more. Some of the other schools in the Sun Belt are.

    5) I like how this class has a little bit of everything. It’s not too heavy on any 1 particular position.

    6) I know we can’t get them all, but when I look around at the schools we are competing with these are the players that I wish were going to be wearing a Jaguar uniform. We may not have even recruited some of these guys for whatever reason.

    Scott Austin, WR, Biloxi, UL-L
    DeMarcus Glover, DE, Pensacola, WKU
Bryan Slater, DE, St. Pauls, Troy
Dijon Paschal, WR, Tallassee, Arkansas State
Carl Lee, WR, McGill, Arkansas State
    Darius Paige, DT, Foley, Alabama
    Brandon King, S, JUCO, Auburn
    Zach Cunningham, LB, Pinson, Vanderbilt
Jimal McBride, DT, Waycross GA, MTSU
    Jalan Coleman, LB, Daphne, UAB
Rod Crayton, DT, Dadeville, Southern Miss
Jalen Square, CB, McGill, Southern Miss

  • I think we knocked a home run myself. Talking to the different coaches during our visit I got a very good impression that they had really been doing a lot of evaluation of the team, the direction they wanted to go, and who they needed to recruit to fill in the missing spots. I think we got pretty much everyone they wanted to complete the puzzle.

Now that all of the offensive coaches know CRM's system and have a good base of players that know the system things should go much faster this spring and summer and be further ahead by game one than they were last year.

The redshirts from last years recruiting haul should be ready to contribute and add talent on the field as needed back-ups and new starters. That along with the JUCO boys and a few freshmen contributors from this haul should bring the talent level up a few notches.

The biggest challenge will be to get everyone on the same sheet of music and have them clicking as a well oiled machine. If the offense can click, move the ball and score points, we will have a much better chance. Rotating fresh bodies along the D-Line and adding bigger guys in the defensive backfield should give us the edge we need to keep games close and even dominate on the defensive side to make a big push in the win column.

Has the date of the spring game been announced?

    jag313

  • CJJ said that it would start in about 3 weeks ( he gave specific dates but I forgot to write them down ). He wanted the coaches to have time to get their act together before hitting the field.

I think he said the Spring Game would be April 6th.

    GO JAGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!

Sorry for not getting your question. For me football never stops or starts. Its a full all through the year sport. Yes the games may be seasonal but football itself is much more than just games. There is conditioning, training, weights, speed, skill development, mental preparation, film study, play book study and team development that continues every day. Having 3 sons playing football we never take a break.

  • Yea I was blessed with 2 girls. Whom I love by the way, but I don't get the year around football that I use to when I was in it.

  • I didn't think this had been posted yet but a decent review from Bleacher Report. Overall positive comments about the Jags.

    South Alabama Jaguars
    Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports
South Alabama is another up-and-coming program inside the Sun Belt. This program started transitioning into the FBS two seasons ago and is pulling in top talent around the South, building a strong program. This recruiting class was a solid haul, though it is not a championship-level effort just yet.

This class is led by running back Kaleb Blanchard. He is a solid runner who has a low base and bounces through the middle of the line effectively. He will be an immediate contributor for this squad.

This team is climbing the FBS rankings each year, and a solid continued recruiting effort will help that success continue for this squad.
