Hi Guys, big FYI for you this morning. Over the weekend South Alabama and QB commitment Taylor Lamb parted ways, according what I'm hearing through 247 and elsewhere.
Lamb had become interested in visiting Appalachian State (I believe he is familiar with some coaches there) and I'm pretty sure he was told that if he visited that we were going to move on in searching for a QB recruit in this class (if we even take one). I believe that his father (former Furman/current Mercer HC) and his uncle (his HS coach) both advised him to stick with USA and not take any visits but he really wanted to and this is the result.
I'll be honest with you - Lamb is a great high school player who has had a tremendous career but the more I watched him this year the more I became concerned that he has the physical tools to succeed in FBS football. He played at fairly low-level of competition (2A) in Georgia, and dominated it. He didn't really show a lot of arm strength and, while he moved around OK, doesn't have the speed to make him a true running threat on the next level. He certainly has the head for the game, but is that enough? I guess we'll find out as we watch him play elsewhere.
Meanwhile I think the USA staff will take a look at some guys with better measurables and decide if they want to bring in a QB or not this year. We certainly have a few already on campus.
Are there any QBs currently on the roster who you believe might be asked to switch positions?
Horizontally enhanced, vertically challenged, follically impaired...
Outside shot that Bridge will, but it's very unlikely.
DK thanks for the info.Sounds like South wasn't to concerned if they got him or not. I based that on your post and the recruitment of Xavier Johnson.I see XJ is back on the commit list.South may feel good about Powell for the future.
Fwiw, everyone I've talked to feels very good about Powell.
Kudos to USA for standing their ground. Hope it works out for the kid. I'm sure USA will survive.
Their are alot of kids who commit and then take other visits..For the most part, from what I have read, the school does not cut ties with the player just for wanting to see other places..Istheir more to it than just the fact he wanted to take a visit? I sure hope so.I don't think we should make a habit of doing this if it is indeed the case..
While I agree to some degree with JCL...I think if a kid has committed to a school and wants to take other visits he should fully expect the school where he is committed to keep looking as well. If a kid he is truly committed, he wouldn't be looking at other schools.
I fully agree that we should keep looking also..To me it just seems their is more to this than the fact he wants to visit App St,,These kids do this all the time..If he were a 5 star,I doubt we would cut ties,so maybe their is something to AJ's theory of him not being that good..
I agree that you don't cut ties with a kid you really want for taking visits. You fight like crazy for that kid. This indicates to me that somewhere in the USA organization someone wasn't complete sold on him.
You and AJ are spot on.
Wish him well @ App.St.
I believe they will move Fetner to defense before spring practice. Bridge isn't going anywhere, he should have a legitimate shot at a being the starter.
Yea. I agree with that. May have been looking for an out and he gave them one.

No he's not going to move or no he hasn't been asked to?
Today I’ll take any kind of passion. Just care! Complain, moan, groan, or call for somebody’s head. CARE !! - OJ
I don't think Fetner will move to defense. Maybe TE, but I think he'll stay at QB and be used in fewer packages, due to the presences of BB
Class of '14. Go Jags! South in your Mouth!
Pro style QB Brett Sheehan will be taking an official visit this next weekend. Hes a good QB from Suwanee GA. Maybe he likes it at USA? Noah has already made contact with him and he likes the fact that USA is recruiting some big linemen to protect the QB. Apparently he hasnt had a big line in HS
Sheehan has better tools than Lamb.
He was committed to FIU but dropped them when Cristobal got fired.
We were recruiting Sheehan and Lamb at the same time but when Lamb committed we stopped.
We made contact when the Lamb situation unfolded and there was still some interest. He visited Ga St this weekend but apparently he was unimpressed enough to schedule his USA visit.
Given the type of offense we run. What is the best type of quarterback for our system? A pro-style or more of a running/throwing version.
I have serious doubts about this kid's decision making abilities. Who wouldn't want to go to school in the most awesomest place in the whole wide world? They play in a (90% empty) NFL stadium for crying out loud! That alone impresses every recruit that steps foot on campus, or so I've heard.
Spot on RTJ, spot on...
Let's not forget they had a $10,000 money drop that 13 students showed up for.
I'm told that there would have been more, but they were all wearing their sunglasses and could not find the stadium in the dark.
