They've negotiated a buyout and will leave the conference at the end of the academic year.
Currently the SBC has eight members for 2013 and all of us will need to find an additional OOC game to fill the schedule.
Wow. That complicates things. Now 5 OOC games? Do you think the MTSU or FAU game will be replaced by Texas St or FIU, teams we were scheduled to skip next season? Either way, it's going to be a road game I'm assuming.
Class of '14. Go Jags! South in your Mouth!
Where are they going?
CUSA. They got invited a couple of months ago.
I guess we know now why south is delayed in sending out season ticket packages for next season. Damn.
I guess at this late date the chance of scheduling a FBS team for next season is non-existent. This will make becoming bowl eligible more difficult with at least 2 FCS teams on the schedule.
We have no FCS teams on the schedule now. We can probably pick up Texas St (who we are not scheduled to play now). That would leave space for only one FCS. We could also possibly pick up New Mexico St who has opening and/or Idaho. Idaho has 12 games scheduled but they have two games scheduled with NMS.
7 sunbelt games, Kent St , Tenn.,Tulane, Navy, NMS or Idaho = 12 games.

2 scheduled with the same team? That is bad.
The sun belt needs to bite the bullet and make a call to nmsu, Idaho, app state, and Georgia so. Immediately.

No to NMS and Double No to Idaho. Just too far out of our conference footprint. The only redeeming quality of NMS is a decent basketball and baseball programs, none for Idaho. We got rid of Denver because of the travel, Idaho would be worse.
Just found out that NMSU has filled their schedule but it has not been announced, however, they do have two games scheduled with Idaho.
I completely agree about the distance. My only point is the Sun Belt has to do something to provide immediate stability. Can this be done with an 8 member conference in which 1 team is brand new to D-1? I do not feel real strong about the future of the Sun Belt.
I guess its official. .
I didn't even know that it was possible to schedule the same team twice in the regular season. I would have figured that was some kind of scheduling violation or something. I have never heard of that before.

I thought I had bookmarked the rules for scheduling for FBS (I can't find it), but they are fairly straight forward.
* Schedule no less than 8 games in a season, but no more than 12, unless Hawaii is an away opponent, then you may have 13.
* Only 1 FCS game may be counted towards bowl eligibility.
* Lower divisions (DII, DIII) may not count toward bowl eligibility.
* No less than 5 home games may be scheduled.
I do not remember seeing a provision against playing an opponent twice.
Hello App St and Georgia So..
If Texas State gets added as a home game, that would probably have a Bill Curry/Georgia State effect on ticket sales, just because 'Bama fans would come see Franchione.
Also, on a good note, with FAU gone and likely removed from our schedule for this year and maybe for a long while, we will maintain a 1-0 record against the Owls. UNDEFEATED!
I think we should grab a SWAC, OVC, SoCon, MEAC, or Southland team as the extra needed OOC game.
I agree. An FCS school should get the spot. We need a game where we can "take it easy". Maybe we can cash in on UC-Davis dropping their half of the deal back in 2011. I doubt it would happen, just throwing names out.
It shouldn't be too difficult scheduling a couple of FCS schools to fill the void. Personally I would prefer one FCS and one FBS.
If they can find an opening and get Alabama State to play us at Ladd-Peebles that would fill that stadium up. They have a BIG following in Mobile and across the State.
What was the buyout?
What about ODU? The twitter verse has rumblings that they are looking to add another FBS team to their schedule.
Hey, I'd like to see that happen.
This is a good idea. If we have to go the FCS route, schedule an in-state school. Good for attendance and local interest.
According to fbsschedules.com............
"As we indicated last week, the pickings are slim at the FBS level. As of today, it appears that only Duke, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Marshall, and Missouri need a non-conference game."
Looks like we may have no choice but to schedule an FCS team.

I like Alabama State or A&M. I would like to pull in a Grambling or Southern or FAMU. Lots of alumni along our stretch of the coast from each of those institutions.
In response to another poster, I DO NOT want two FCS games. I don't want any but one is all we can afford. The other one wouldn't count, assuming we won the first one.
As much as NMSU and Idaho have been discussed, not sure they have filled their now wide open schedules, but one of those would be fine.
We only need one game. We'll play all 7 SBC teams. We have 4 OOC games.
