It's not based on that. Don't know what our conference make-up is class wise, maybe this is a down year for seniors in the Sun Belt? We'll just have to wait and see....... I would think IF Jake is not on the initial list, he would have to be a top choice as an injury replacement.
IT'S OUR TIME! GO JAGS!!
I would think that he has an invite to the NFLPA Bowl on the table, and he's waiting for one from the Senior Bowl. BJ Scott has already accepted an invitation to play in the NFLPA Bowl, so I think there's a good chance Jake will be playing somewhere.
If he doesn't get a Senior Bowl invite, the NFLAPA Bowl is Plan B.
Class of '14. Go Jags! South in your Mouth!
Here's the link to the Senior Bowl Facebook page:
Gonna see what I can get started. Jake should be a no doubter. Not so sure about BJ though.

Today I’ll take any kind of passion. Just care! Complain, moan, groan, or call for somebody’s head. CARE !! - OJ
Let's be honest here. I like BJ and I'm glad that he was a Jaguar but what did he do in his career at either Bama or USA to show that he has NFL potential? He's a home town guy and was a team leader and led the team in tackles a few games but what stands out about his career? He was super hyped coming out of HS as a 5 star talent but he never lived up to those expectations. I think we should focus our efforts on getting Jake in because he actually has the resume. Pairing BJ with Jake is just going to keep Jake out.
I do think BJ has a shot to play in the NFL, but I'm not sure he's done enough to warrent a SB invite.
Hopefully he blows up at the NFLPA game. He can get seen there just as easily.
That was exactly my thought as well.
We are so smart!
I think BJ has the talent to make an NFL roster but he's been injured just enough to stop him from being an impact player at USA.
As rtj so smartly pointed out, I don't doubt that he has the talent to possibly make it one day, but no, I don't think he did enough to warrant a Senior Bowl invite.
Agree with all the points about BJ,JJ should be in the Senior Bowl.Go to SB facebook and and post something for him lets do all we can for Jake and South Alabama football.
GO JAGS !
I think Jake handled the Jack LB postion well. However; against larger and stronger oposition, his size sort of got him drug around the field: (Ie MTSU game) and that could have hurt his stock on the watch list.
JAG FAN SINCE <><>
Jake still had 15 tackles and 2 QB hurries in the MTSU game.

To lead a conference in tackles and not be invited would be a travesty....especially when you have FCS players already in....How was the Sun Belt rated among FBS conferences?
I just don't see it happening, even though I really want it to. Phil Savage has made it clear that his goal is to provide the best available draft prospects for scouts to view. Take, for example, CBS' 2013 draft rankings (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/2013/ILB). Of the Seniors ranked, Jake Johnson is #21. The 3 ILBs that have already been announced for the Senior Bowl are ranked #3, 5, & 6. Plus, there's hopes that Manti Te'o (#1) will accept.
Senior Bowl will send out more invites today.Keeping my fingers crossed for Jake and BJ.
GO JAGS !
10 more invites announced... none of them JJ. One of them a LB, leaving only 1 LB spot (if they take 12 as usual). Also, still expecting to see Monti Te'o announced to round it out. Not looking good for JJ.
So is the general thought that Te'o will accept a SB invite?
He really has nothing to gain.
It seems pretty clear from listening to Savage on the radio, that he's running the SB like he would an NFL draft war room. it sounds like he's got his rankings, and he's not going to stray from that board.
It's probably worth noting that (according to CBS's list) BJ Scott is actually ranked higher (426) than Jake Johnson (499).
I think that assessment is spot on. You're right about that CBS list... take it for what it's worth. I was just trying to illustrate an example that JJ is far down the list of entering ILBs in the 2013 draft, and the CBS rankings was the first example I saw.
All I know is that the SB really wants Te'o. I haven't heard anything definite about his participation.
The SB has always had a spot or two for local guys Preston Dial comes to mind.He wasn't drafted i think he went to Detroit as a free agent and got cut pretty quick.I was just hoping JJ would get a shot in the SB.I think JJ will get a shot somewhere even without the SB.He would do well on special teams with his nose for the ball.Good luck # 42 and thanks for being a Jaguar!

I think that the hiring of Phil Savage to take over SB operations means we have to throw what the SB has "always done" out the window.
Let me preface this post by saying that I know stats do not tell the entire story... BUT
I did some research to compare Jake with the linebackers that have already accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl. I was kind of astounded. Out of 12 people Jake would rank 2nd in tackles per game, 8th in sacks per game, 4th in tackles for loss per game, and 3rd in QB hurries per game.
If you were to take these 4 categories and assign points to them based on how the players were ranked (i.e. player ranked #1 in a category received 12 points, a player ranked #2 received 11 points and so forth down to the player ranked #12 in a category receiving 1 point) you get the following total points for each linebacker:
39 -- Kevin Reddick, North Carolina
36 -- Khaseem Greene, Rutgers
35 -- Jake Johnson, South Alabama
35 -- Jamie Collins, Southern Miss
29 -- Trevardo Williams, Connecticut
28 -- John Simon, Ohio State
27 -- Chase Thomas, Stanford
23 -- Kiko Alonso, Oregon
22 -- Sean Porter, Texas A&M
20 -- Arthur Brown, Kansas State
10 -- Zaviar Gooden, Missouri
8 -- Nico Johnson, Alabama
Jake deserves an invitation.

Absolutely he does. What a shame on the SB!!
The only excuse that can be used is that the Perception of the League Jake played in does not measure up. I don't have the conference rankings but where is the Sun Belt Conference? Next just ask Savage straight up what criteria was used the city and fans need an explanation....

Except Preston Dial played at Alabama and the SB knows that if they want to sell more tickets they just have to invite a bunch of players from Bama/Auburn even if they aren't the most deserving out there.
