Did you see today's email from the USA athletic department? It's a countdown to the start of USA football in 2013, on THURSDAY 8/29. So our first game isn't on the road at Tulane, if true. It would be a conference game ... At home?

That's kind of what I thought would happen, but I wouldn't have expected Thursday to be pre-determined, unless South was deciding. I had received another email a week or so ago that claimed the SBC schedule was in flux (due to realignment), and we didn't know how many home games there would be. If that's the case, I'm not reading anything into the future schedules listed at usajaguars.com. Hope we get 6 at home...
I know Smith stated we were to open at Georgia State in his interview. Has this been officially confirmed? Would be a great opener if true.

But why thursday? Georgia State does not draw well already on a typical Saturday. I would think that a Thursday game would be even worse. I know Jags would travel to Atlanta to see this one with the almost rivalry, but I would think Thursday would hinder attendance with people having to work the next day.
Alabama and Virginia Tech play that Saturday.
Not officially, but South Alabama and Georgia State are the only two Sun Belt teams that don't have an out of conference game scheduled that weekend.
Georgia State has opened every season on a Thursday because of the Chick-fil-a kickoff game.
August 29th it shall be.
Seems like a good way to open the season....a legit shot at a conference road win.

I hadn't seen it confirmed anywhere, but had read on their board and a couple of other places, that Georgia State and South Alabama would be each's season opener in 2013.
If that's holds true, I really give the Jags a good shot at starting 2-0.
Tulane was dreadful a year ago and prospects aren't better for the coming year.
I don't know what 09/14 and 09/21 hold for us, but a real plausible chance to be 2-2, 3-1, or dare I say it, 4-0, going into Knoxville would be great.
I'm all for opening with Georgia State, but remember last year when Coach Jones mentioned how hard it was to prepare for a team that you had no film on? This worries me. He said this after the UTSA and Nicholls State games year, and then repeated that sentiment throughout the season when teams would run something different at us. Georgia State will have a new coach so we won't have game film of them. Hopefully we aren't taking this game lightly, especially after our last trip to the dome.
I have a feeling that we are going to be a whole lot better than last year. With the exception of our last game at Hawaii, the offense was really beginning to gel and do some things on offense. As for the defense, I just dont know how to predict. If we dont go backwards, hopefully the defense can keep us in some games.
We have a lot of people back that were on that team that lost to Georgia State 2 years ago. I dont think we take this game lightly. Hopefully we come out and put a hurtin' on GSU and set the tone for the remainder of the season.
I know I would love to attend that game but I don't see how that can happen on a Thursday night.
USA vs Georgia State; Alabama vs Virginia Tech; Braves vs Marlins. Think I have the last weekend of August planned out.
I thought the same thing when I looked at the Braves schedule and saw they were also in town.
Class of '14. Go Jags! South in your Mouth!
