Shaquille Jones, a corner back from Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Florida has become the South Alabama Jaguars 7th verbal commitment for the 2014 signing class.
According to Jones, who has played CB, safety and WR, the Jags are recruiting him to play CB.
When asked about his style of play, the 6’2,175 Jones replied, “If the balls in the air, its mine or its no ones. I can come up and hit like a LB. I love to hit.” Having been clocked at a 4.49 this summer, Jones continued, “I’m an athlete who can pretty much do anything. I’m just a lockdown corner who can run side-by-side with the WR.”
With interest from Marshall, Mississippi State, FAU, Jacksonville, New Hampshire, FAMU and Florida Tech as well as South Alabama, Jones felt the time was right to commit. While he’s yet to visit the campus, he’s in the process of setting a visit up for sometime next month.
His reason for committing before visiting, “The coaches made me feel at home. I can see myself playing in their defense, and it’s amazing seeing their work out videos. They work hard. I wanted to play with my man Caleb Alves from Palm Bay High. Also, I just want to get away from Florida and see new things. But mostly, the coaches showed so much love. They would answer the phone just to tell me they love me. They made me feel wanted, and I just want to thank The University of South Alabama for believing in me and offering me a free education. It helps me and my family out a lot. Now we don’t have to stress over it.”
When asked if he was visiting anywhere this summer other than his visit to South Alabama, Jones had this to say, “Maybe FAU, that’s all. I’m a Jag, no need to go to any more camps. I’m a Jag. No turning back."
Shaq Jones joins athlete Joshua Smith (Cascade HS, Wash.), cornerback Marice Fluellen (Northview HS; Dothan, Ala.), defensive back C.J. Johnson (Colquitt County HS, Ga.), cornerback Jeremy Reaves (Catholic HS; Pensacola, Fla.), quarterback Kilton Anderson (Skyline HS; Sammamish, Wash.) and offensive lineman Corbin Finlayson (Palm Beach Gardens HS, Fla.) as commitments to the South Alabama Jaguars.
