Jags Land Touted Running Back

JagsJungle.com has learned that running back Kaleb Blanchard of Denham Springs, LA has committed to South Alabama. A high-rated three star prospect, Blanchard had several SEC offers and was actually committed to Arkansas earlier in the recruiting process. A coaching change led to his recruitment opening again.

Blanchard visited Mobile this past weekend and saw all the Jaguar program and the city has to offer. A Mardi Gras parade, the Senior Bowl (with a chance to see USA alum BJ Scott participate) and a tour of the campus and the facilities. Suitably impressed, he was ready to commit but the South Alabama coaches took the low-pressure approach and told him to go home and think about it. Monday evening he was still ready to make the commitment and now has agreed to be part of the Jaguar family.

Despite injuries curtailing his junior season and some of his senior year, Blanchard was rated the #40 running back in the nation and the #536 prospect overall by 247 Sports. He was named the Offensive MVP of the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl last month.

Earlier in recruiting he had offers from those two schools plus Mississippi State. La Tech was after him hard lately but he's a smart kid who made the right choice.

Seems to be. He did win that offensive MVP in the All-American Game in late December.

If memory serves me right, Demetre Baker was a four star coming out of high school as well. While this is a big time recruit, they must all still develop into collegiate players. I'm excited though!

Hopefully Kaleb will be playing in the Senior Bowl one day after he leads the Jags after a bowl victory.

If we're talking about transfers, like Baker, then I doubt we'll ever have a guy rated higher than BJ Scott was coming out of high school.
If we land him, Blanchard currently stands as the highest rated recruit we've ever had.

I was just talking about our current RB situation and the comparing the stars that are given out to players. I would be shocked if we ever get a 5 star recruit let alone a major 4 star one. But like i said its about developing the players when they get on campus and not what they were rated when they came out of high school.
